Services
Tree Growth Tax Law
We write management plans and complete applications for Tree Growth Tax Law enrollment.
NRCS cost-share
Maren is a Natural Resources Conservation Service TSP, qualified to write NRCS-funded management plans and administer cost-share practices. This can open up funding to the landowner for various silviculture or wildlife oriented practices.
WoodsWISE program
We are certified by the state of Maine to write Woodland Resource Action Plans (management plans that receive cost-share assistance), and help landowners apply for cost-share funding for forestry practices through the WoodsWISE Resilience program.
Timber sales
If a harvest is in the best interest of the forest and the landowner, we can work with you to set up a timber sale, including legal requirements and tree marking, and find a contractor to work on your property. We charge hourly for timber sale services, not a percentage of timber income.
Boundary line marking
We flag, blaze, and paint boundary lines between corner markers for long-lasting evidence. This greatly reduces the risk of neighbors accidentally harvesting your forest.
General consulting
Have a question about your woods? We can walk and talk to discuss habitat improvement, forest health concerns, or whatever may be on your mind.
Shoreland zoning
Want to improve your view to a water body, but not compromise soil integrity, and remain within the law? We can make sure you meet town requirements for non-timber sale tree removal.
Invasive plant plans
We’ve been trained by the Maine Forest Service to identify, map, and make recommendations for prioritized invasive plant control. This can be part of a forest management plan, or a standalone project.

Frequently asked questions
We charge by the acre for management plans, by the mile for boundary line marking, and hourly for other services. Contact us for a quote.
If you own at least 10 contiguous forested acres in Maine and manage for commercial products (including timber, firewood for sale, maple syrup, balsam wreathes, and more), you are probably eligible. By enrolling in TGTL, the forested land will be assessed at a rate determined at the county level. This usually results in moderate to significant tax savings, but is not the right fit for everyone. Applications for new enrollments are due to your town by April 1. Please give us as much lead time as possible, as early spring is a busy time. Renewals are due 10 years after your previous management plan was written. If you’ve just bought a property enrolled in Tree Growth, you have one year from the closing date to adopt the previous plan or create a new one.
